Fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital pioneers treatments, technologies, therapies and real-world programs that give children with disabilities the tools to participate fully in life. Holland Bloorview serves about 7,000 children each year through 600 inpatient admissions and 58,000 outpatient visits. Founded in 2004, with support from a large endowment, the on-site Bloorview Research Institute conducts applied research that’s focused on care, technology and the removal of barriers led by an interdisciplinary group of 20 scientists with expertise in medicine, surgery, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, engineering, epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology and more. Clients and families are important members of the research team. The Institute encourages integrated, cutting-edge research and teaching with evidence-based care to improve the quality of children’s lives.
As Holland Bloorview enters this new chapter of cutting-edge research, teaching and evidence- based care, the organization is seeking two driven leaders to advance the academic and applied research mandate.
Clinician Scientist, Acquired Brain Injury
Funded largely by the Holland Family Endowment, this new position offers the opportunity to build a research program that directly influences clinical care for kids with acquired brain injuries (ABI). With the largest cohort of ABI patients in Canada, the program at Holland Bloorview is advanced, acclaimed and high profile. You will define the role by driving the agenda of new knowledge and capacity building in ABI. Working in partnership with academic, clinical and research affiliates, clients and families, you and your team will collaborate locally, nationally and internationally with research pacesetters in the field of pediatric acquired brain injury.
In this leadership role, and with a commitment to innovative practices in teaching and research, you will develop and promote performance indicators which measure transformation in care. Reporting jointly to the Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs and Vice President, Research at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, you’ll expand a provincial program that serves children and youth from across Ontario. Serve as an ambassador for Holland Bloorview in the development and implementation of evidence informed care and the development of collaborative research partnerships both internally and externally.
Holland Bloorview is committed to the creation of an endowed chair in paediatric ABI jointly with the University of Toronto. In this new role, it is anticipated that you will also become the inaugural holder of this chair. An M.D. or Ph.D., you are a senior level clinician scientist with experience in acquired brain injury. With internationally recognized academic credentials, appointments and awards you have firmly established your research credibility and have completed specialty certification in paediatric neurology, developmental pediatrics, neuropsychology or paediatric physiatry.
